Planning a wedding in Mallorca and not sure which dates to choose? For couples flying in from abroad, the time of year is more important than it seems at first glance: it affects not only the weather but also the light in photographs, the number of tourists, and the general rhythm of the day. In this post, I’ll tell you which months on the island are especially beautiful for weddings, when sunsets are at their mildest and the heat isn’t yet uncomfortable for you and your guests. I’ll show you the pros and cons of each season through the eyes of a wedding photographer in Mallorca and help you choose the time that will truly make your day shine, both in person and in photographs.
Mallorca is a very beautiful and romantic island for a wedding. There’s something for every taste: mountains, beaches, and gardens. There are also many fincas, from ancient to modern. Some couples hold their ceremonies in the cathedral, usually as wedding ceremonies. In this case, the time of year doesn’t matter, as long as the dinner and party are held in a cool but warm location, such as a hotel or a farm.
A wedding in Mallorca can be held at any time of year, as winters here are not very cold.
But the ideal time is from May to October. I’ve lived in Mallorca for five years, and every year before, the most pleasant months were May, September, and October. The temperatures are perfect for the celebration—not too hot and not too cold. Conversely, not as hot as July-August, but not as cold as winter.
If you’re planning a winter celebration, I wouldn’t recommend February or early March. It can be windy and very uncomfortable, especially for the bride in her elegant dress. However, if you’re planning a wedding at this time of year, I recommend an indoor reception with an on-site photo shoot of the newlyweds.
In November, December, and February, there are significantly fewer tourists, and the prices for Finnish wedding planners and vendors are lower. This is a big plus. Another advantage is makeup, which is very important for the bride! Especially if she can’t contain her emotions and cries during the ceremony! In cool weather, makeup lasts better, and skin doesn’t get oily. The groom and his friends can wear suits and tuxedos without suffering from the heat.
There are also rainy days that can ruin a wedding day; everything can go wrong. Therefore, if you have a choice, it’s best to avoid November, December, January, and February. But if you do book a wedding for these months, especially February-March, ask your wedding planner or arrange for umbrellas for each guest yourself. Clear umbrellas, of course, are best for photos and video, as they don’t obscure the image or obscure the faces of the bride and groom.
As a wedding photographer, I see how the season greatly influences how your day will look in photographs: whether the shots will be light and airy or contrasty and saturated, how much «magical» light will be in the frame, and how relaxed you and your guests will feel. It’s important not to follow the calendar, but to choose the time of year that suits your story.
As for light, winter is a plus: the photos turn out airy and soft, without the harsh, scorching sun. Summer requires photographing in very bright sunlight, which can create a different style, with greater contrast and, for inexperienced photographers, overexposure.
An experienced photographer always knows how to solve this problem, resulting in delicate and perfectly lit photographs. That’s why choosing a good, experienced photographer is so important!!!
Let your photographer be «the one» – someone who sees your day the way you feel it. Good luck with your choice!!!
